There are some solutions that allow you to easily manage your online text, content and images by logging in to an administration area. These are called Content Management Systems (CMS).
These solutions can sometimes be used to support membership or subscription models and even have reasonably powerful database options. Shop ‘plug-ins’ can also allow eCommerce functionality to be added.
If you are planning a content-based website, a CMS could be the right option. They are a very good way of publishing lots of articles, news and information to the web. You can often choose to offer forums for discussion and support.
You can normally allow other people to contribute to your site with control over whether they can publish directly or if their articles need approval first.
You should note though, that most eCommerce solutions allow you to add, edit and delete content pages too; so if you only want five or six content pages to support your online shop, the chances are you can do it with an eCommerce solution.
